Getting to the root of the problem is the best solution. A lot of times, we try to fix societal problems by treating the symptoms. While this is a much-needed, short-term solution, we can attempt to end these same problems by identifying the root cause(s). But it ain't easy – just as a tall tree's root system is deeply hidden, so are the root causes of homelessness, poverty, environmental abuse, or educational inequality. As you consider where to invest your time and resources, look for organizations that try to meet the short-term needs of those affected, as well as change the conditions that lead to the problems in the first place.
