Fostering Change

Fostering Change

How to help half a million.

Can you make an impact regarding an issue as complex and pertinent as foster care? We think so, and May is the month to do it. While there are lots of things to focus on this month, we challenge you to spend 5 minutes today learning about the realties of foster care. Read a firsthand account of what it's like to be a youth in foster care, or what it's like to be a foster parent. And, in case you missed it last year, here's a quick rundown of what you can do right now to make a difference.

Thank you for your inclusion of National Foster Care Month! Did you know that there are nearly 10,000 children in foster care in the state of Tennessee? And the average age of a foster child is 9. There is a tremendous need for loving foster families, especially those willing to share their homes with older foster children.

People in the Greater Chattanooga area can call the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults at 423.755.2724 to learn more about how to include a foster child in their family.

Thanks Cool People Care!

There are quite a number of public and private foster care agencies in Tennessee, particularly in larger communities. Just look up "foster care" in a directory and you should have several choices, depending on where you live.

Respite care is a great need, too. Perhaps you can spare a week, weekend or a day to a foster family in need of a short break. There are all kinds of ways you can assist the fostering process. :)
