Demand to speak to someone else. We have already shared why it's important to compliment and tip (appropriately) your wait staff when you head out to eat. Now, do them one better and compliment them to their superior. It's a basic rule of human nature (and one that needs changing, in our opinion) that we only rant and rave when we receive lousy service. Let's turn that trend on its head and also rave for a job well done. Fill out the comment card, or take the extra three minutes to go out of your way and let someone know they did their job well.

Then I'm all like "man, this guy rocks!" Cynthia commented, on May 22, 2008 at 9:25 a.m.: I had, on occasion, taken the time to do this, especially with restaurant servers, but not all that often. Then I started working in a call center where I learned that some people ask to speak to the supervisor to give commendations on a job well done. After I received my first commendation, it really sank in that those couple minutes from a happy customer could make a huge difference in my day. Now I try to make a note to do that whenever I receive good service on a call or in a physical place of business. I find that it tends to make my day too, because it allows me to focus on the positive things that happen in my world, instead of the negative. I usually start out by saying, "We're quick to go out of our way to make complaints, here's someting good..." Post a commentYou must be a registered user to post comments. |

I enjoy doing this. Sometimes it seems to catch the manager off-guard to hear someone compliment their staff because it is more common to hear when something isn't going right. I've found that it makes their day to hear that one of their employees has done an exceptional job. The manager says he/she will let the employee know their service was appreciated. In taking the extra minute three lives are blessed ... the manager's, the employee's, and mine. :)
