Put recycling on the calendar. When life gets busy, we often forget to put out the recycling bin for pick up. Or we continue to put off dropping off our recyclables. And so the bottles, cans and newspapers pile up, and soon, the trash just might seem a more manageable option. Get out of that recycling rut and schedule your green activities for the week. Pencil in the trip to the glass drop off. Remind yourself when the pick up day is. Set aside time to bind the newspapers and rinse the jars. Commit to it like you do lunch with an old friend.

We started a bin for each, and have been filling the paperboard bin with cereal boxes and such. It's amazing how fast those small product boxes add up. Susan commented, on June 20, 2008 at 8:07 a.m.: It's true that the paperboard ... i.e., cereal boxes, contact solution boxes, toothpaste boxes, etc. really add up. Before we started being intentional about recycling we put out about a bag full of trash per day. Now I'm happy to say we're able to put out about 2 bags of trash per week ... and a big brown rubbermaid (made for trash) container that we put out for recycling. It's easy to remember to put it out ... because it's always full by collection day. We also keep seperate bags for paper and paperboard. We're just one family ... but every little bit helps. :) Post a commentYou must be a registered user to post comments. |

I schedule a drop off date with myself when I am running errands in the same area so that I don't make a seperate trip and use the extra fuel.
