Dry your clothes outside to save money and the planet. If you're looking to trim some corners in the family budget and help the environment at the same time, dry one load of laundry outside this week. By letting the warm July sun naturally dry your socks and shirts, you'll be saving a few bucks in energy costs and keeping a few pounds of coal in the ground. And, since the dryer can raise the temperature indoors, your AC will also get a little break. If you don't have a clothesline or a yard, a simple drying rack placed in the living room or bedroom will do the trick.
