Imagine walking into a market knowing exactly which brands support your own unique, socially responsible vision. What if you could know the practices of every company in a product's supply chain? What if all you needed to do was send a text message? And if product scores and suggested alternatives were based on a portfolio of your personalized, socially responsible interests?

Buy It Like You Mean It is a community of people like you who are working together to make socially responsible shopping convenient. Let's make it easy for shoppers to tell how a product impacts the world around them.

We all have different values and concerns. That's why our reviews and ratings are tagged to specific socially responsible interest categories like energy efficiency, kosher practices, or human rights. With help from people like you, our service will soon be as good as your imagination.

Here are some quick ways for you to support our current research focus, the chocolate industry:

2 minutes: Make a tax deductible donation by clicking here. Individual contributors are the backbone of our service, so we'll be happy to send you a premium (and socially responsible) Buy It Like You Mean It chocolate bar as a thank you gift for your support!

10 minutes: Rate a few reviews published by other users. Check out the intro video on our home page. Then create an account and go to our browse page. Click on "details" next to a company that has already been reviewed. Each review lists which socially responsible topic it covers. Click on how many stars you think the company deserves for the behavior described in the review. The ratings guide will help you choose a number between 1 and 9. See how much you can do before you need to get back to other things!

30 minutes or more: Add your own reviews to the knowledge of our community. After rating other people's reviews for a few minutes you'll probably get a sense for what kind of information is missing from the discussion. Our research guide should help you find out where to look for the information you'd like to add. Make sure to cite all of your sources in the text of your review!

I always buy M & M's because of the Breast Cancer Research they fund. And when I am shopping if there is a product I use and it has the pink ribbon on it, I will buy that when I normally try to purchase the one that cost less.

I also tend to purchase 2, one for me and one for my mother-in-law.
