Feed someone with a dollar. September is Hunger Action Month, which is dedicated to the 35.5 million Americans who are food insecure. What's even more pressing is that over a third of those in need are children. So what's a cool person to do in order to feed others? While donating food is always needed, more can be done with your donated dollar. Because food banks purchase and receive food in bulk, your dollar can actually provide four meals to someone who's hungry. So, take up a collection at work or school and feed the multitudes for the cost of a can of beans.

This is so true!! Monetary contributions can be stretched and leveraged to provide 15-20 times the amount of food of traditional food drives. Over the past ten years the public school in my community has done a "Your Change Can Change Hunger" change collection drive. Students have joined together to raise funds, which over the past 10 years, has provided the funding for a local food pantry (purchasing food from the food bank) to feed over 100 families for the ENTIRE YEAR!! Giving in this way qualifies for a tax deduction ... and best of all, keeps wonderful surplus food from ending up in landfills and puts it on the tables of those who need it!
